On June 15th, I marked 6 years since my ordination to the priesthood (which, except for 2 weeks, I have spent here at St. John’s – wow!)
The day before, I had the absolute honour of officiating the wedding of two beautiful humans at Sorrento Centre, who had been on my staff team almost 10 years before. A week later, I officiated at the wedding of another couple, one of whom I had also worked with at Sorrento Centre.
It was not easy making the decision to split my time between St. John’s and Sorrento Centre this summer. I prayed, I talked it out, particularly with my spiritual director.
But after all that uncertainty, I’m glad I’m doing it. It isn’t going to be always easy, this balancing act, already there have been challenges. However, those weddings were a beautiful and much-needed affirmation for me of both my vocation as a priest and my calling and passion for working with young people, past and present, in communities of faith, like Sorrento Centre.
So, all I can say is, with profound joy and gratitude, ‘God is good. Thanks be to God.’
That is my prayer for you, all of you, too. In the midst of whatever challenges and uncertainties that you might be facing in your life or the wider world, may you experience and know that God is indeed good. May you have cause to join with me in saying…
Thanks be to God!
