It’s been quite a week in the world, both locally and globally.

I am tired, after a long week – a week that has been very different than the one that I expected just a few days ago.

All that is happening can make us feel anxious and discouraged. When things are heavy and scary, we might even ask, “Where is God in all of this?”

It is times like these that I think we need to revisit the often-quoted words of Mr. Rogers: children’s TV personality, Presbyterian minister, and follower of Jesus. Words for when things seem to be going all wrong.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news,

my mother would say to me,

‘Look for the helpers.

You will always find people who are helping.’”

I saw God this week. I saw God everywhere I looked: in the generosity of strangers, in neighbours helping neighbours, in the love shown by our community.

I can confirm, my friends, there are many helpers out there. I can confirm, there are many people loving like Jesus.

Take heart. Light is shining in the darkness.

Thanks be to God!
