June 15th was the 7th anniversary of my ordination to the priesthood, and July 1st is my 7th anniversary of ministry here at St. John the Divine.

Wow!

Seven is a very significant number in the Scriptures. Right away we might think of the 7 days of Creation in Genesis 1, with God resting on the 7th day. This in turn is echoed in the biblical commandment of the Sabbath – the day of rest that all people and creatures are entitled to as a divine gift.

Seven is a number that signifies completion, fullness and rest.

And so, this 7th anniversary feels significant to me.

I don’t know how much rest there will be with so many exciting things going on in the life of the church and in my personal life, but there is a real sense for me this year of looking back at all that God has done with profound gratitude; of taking a moment to feast on the seeds that have been planted and which God has grown; of seeing all that God has done and declaring that is very good.

Thanks be to God. Thanks be to this community.

Thank you for 7 wonderful years together.

Here is to many more together, God-willing, fiercely, determinedly, joyfully, loving God and neighbour in the Sea to Sky.

Glory to God for all things, in all things!
