ACT OF PRAISE: #89 - O Come, O Come,  Emmanuel - Darryl Augustine 

Our first advent at St John the Divine, Cameron led us in this song each week.  I remember being moved every time - most times holding back tears.  
I was hoping that this past year we would revisit that song but another was chosen for advent. So now on my youngest daughter’s baptism I thought it would be special to hear it again.
It feels especially relevant to remember today that we repeat, ask and know that this is a God who is and came to be with us.

GRADUAL HYMN: #28 from the new creation hymn book: As I went down to the river to pray. - Emma Nering

I chose this hymn because we sang it before our river baptism, and its message has stayed with me ever since. For me, the river has come to symbolize surrender, renewal, and drawing closer to God. This hymn brings me back to that moment and reminds me of the faith and commitment I felt that day.

OFFERTORY HYMN: #614 - Just As I am - Erica Northcott

This one came to mind following Canon Donald's sermon on  Sunday in which I was assured "It is OK to wrestle with God!" I love this hymn's comforting message even with all the challenges expressed. It's OK to be exactly where and who I am and be welcomed, loved, embraced by God.

Candlelight Carol - Cameron Gutjahr

For the past few years, our amazing Trish has been requesting this piece. We have been a little hesitant because we thought it might be beyond us. But I think we can do it! What faith she has - believing in us before we believed in ourselves.

Anthem - In the Dark of the night - Lukas Nering

It is one of my favourite hymns because of its mystical contemplative melody. Every time I hear it I get a sense of awe and reverence for Jesus and I feel it beautifully captures grief, hope and love.

CLOSING HYMN: #425 - Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee - David Hildreth

This hymn is so very special, as Joyful was our family theme during Edie's challenges, and gave our family strength as we adored God and Jesus.  Blessings to all. David and Family.
