This Sunday marks my 3-year anniversary of moving to Squamish and beginning this incredible journey of being your priest.

While not my 1st, 5th, or 10th anniversary (the usual big ones), this one still feels auspicious, mostly because of the Revised Common Lectionary.

What is the Revised Common Lectionary you might ask?

For those who aren’t familiar, the Revised Common Lectionary (or the RCL as the cool kids call it) is the cycle of readings that we use in church each Sunday morning, a rhythm that we share with many other churches around the world.  It is a beautifulecumenical project (ecumenical: something that crosses denominational boundaries in Christianity).

I love that the pieces of scripture that we read, mark and inwardly digest each week are the same readings that thousands of other churches and followers of Jesus are engaging with around the globe every Sunday, even though we might be doing so a little bit differently. I believe it is a wonderful symbol of the unity we can share in our diversity.

But how long is this cycle, this lectionary? You guessed it: 3 years. That means that this Sunday, the readings are the same as my first Sunday with you, all the way back in July 2019.

I love that. And that’s why this Sunday feels extra special to me.

As I look back on the past 3 years of readings: 3 years of joys and sorrows; hardships and celebrations; prayer, music, laughter, fellowship, and service, I just want to say that it has been myprivilege and joy to follow in the way of Jesus with you in the Sea to Sky. I give thanks to God every day that we were brought together at this time.

And thankfully, this is not the end. I am excited to begin this next cycle of the RCL with you, living in these familiar rhythms, while at the same time seeing what new things God will do with and through us.

 Thanks be to God!
