One of St. John’s mutual ministry goals for this year is celebration.

This goal developed from the fact that, believe it or not, the roof project will be wrapping up this year!

It has been long, expensive, and perhaps even frustrating at times (Ok, scratch the ‘perhaps’).

But I think that this is all the more reason to throw a party, invite the community, and celebrate not only the ending of this project but also everything that we have learned and accomplished along the way. Despite the struggles and difficulties, we have been richly blessed during this process, in surprising and astonishing ways (but that is how God works, isn’t it?)

However, I hope that this mutual ministry goal can be more than just a party for the roof. I hope and pray that this year we might more deeply embody a spirit of celebration as a community.

If we proclaim that “we are an Easter people and alleluia is our song”, and alleluia is a word of celebration, then every Sunday when we gather to pray, sing, and be in fellowship with one another, it is most certainly a party, a feast, a celebration. Celebration is baked into who we are as the beloved community. And every week at the party, we are filled up with the love of God, the peace of Christ, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit to go out into the world and keep that party going, the party of justice,  grace and mercy that we call the Kingdom of God.

Thanks be to God!
