Looking for Starbucks but found a church instead.

Three women were driving up to Whistler last Saturday and decided to stop for a Starbucks on the way.

For anyone who used to frequent the Starbucks in Garibaldi Village, you know it is now closed. Darn!

Looking down the road, they saw something going on just around the corner. So, they decided to check it out.

This is how these three stumbled into our Spring Fling last Saturday. They stayed for quite some time – longer, I think, than one would have stayed at most Starbucks stops on the way to somewhere else.

Before they left, they made a point to find me. They asked me a few questions, and thanked me, wholeheartedly, for the generous hospitality, for this wonderful community event that they had stumbled into, where they were made to feel part of the family.

This reminds me that “stewardship” is more than money. The Spring Fling was a successful fundraising event, to be sure, that is important, but it was more than that.

I pray that we will have more people looking for Starbucks but instead find our little church. And more importantly, I pray that through the power of the Holy Spirit we may continue to embody the love of Jesus – be the be-loved community – for all who find their way to our doors.

Thanks be to God!
