Parish Council Minutes May 30, 2021

Present: Present: Rev. Cameron, David Hildreth, Karen Brumpton, Eve Brealey, Rita Carey, Anna Morgan, Stacey Spencer, Igor Martins Oliveira, Andrew Runciman, Edie Hildreth

Stacey opened the meeting with a prayer.

Review and Adoption of Agenda
Rita moved and Karen seconded the acceptance of the agenda as presented - Carried

Review and Acceptance of Past Minutes
Andrew moved and Edie seconded that the minutes be accepted as presented

Business Arising from the Minutes
All items will be covered in the meeting

Financial/Envelope Reports
Eve presented the Balance sheet and Income and Expense report. It was noted that the curacy grant ends June 2021. A cheque for $14,000.00 will be received from the wage subsidy program.
Eve moved and Karen seconded that the reports be accepted as presented

Fundraising + Stewardship

Rita presented the envelope report, pledges are being met and unpledged donations are over what they were last year at this time.
It was noted that fundraising funds are down.
Rev. Cameron thanked Rita for the plant sale that was held at her home. $300.00 was raised.

Fundraising Ideas
Rev. Cameron presented the council with two fundraising ideas:

Outreach

a Trivia Night in June as
a bike blessing either a Friday or Saturday in June.

Rev Cameron has been in conversation with SAM (Squamish Academy of Music) about a partnership, sharing space and music. More to come!

Rev Cameron spoke to the council about the Indian Survivours of Residential Schools Society.
Karen moved and David seconded that St. John the Divine send a donation of $500.00 to the Indian Survivours of Residential Schools Society.

It was suggested that Indigenous Reconciliation be a part of our monthly agenda. Rev Cameron will meet with the wardens to brainstorm ideas of how we can move forward.

Maintenance
Yard work

Rita advised the committee that the garden is in need of weeding and trimming. A notice will be sent out to the parish asking for volunteers. Rita offered to co- ordinate this project.

Roof Update
The diocese has approved a grant of $40,000.00 for the roof.
The diocese has agreed to provide St. John with a loan for the roof.
A contact has been received from Andy
It was suggested that St. John apply to the Anglican Foundation with regards to the roof repairs.

St. Bernard’s
Rev Cameron met with 4 people from St. Bernard’s for a time of prayer.
Two dates have been set for the next outdoor gatherings.

n article about St. Bernard’s was in the dioceses magazine and a donation of $1,000.00 was received
The group has some ideas:

“the spirituality of snow boarding”
Contact the Peak to see if they would be interested in doing an interview/article about St. Bernard’s – Andrew volunteered to check this out.

In-person Worship
In person worship services can begin on June 15
th after much discussion the committee decided that June 15th is too soon. There was a discussion about waiting until the majority of the congregation has had their second vaccination. There may be some outdoor worship services in the summer.
It was agreed that in person services will start small, perhaps with the evening prayer service. We will slowly build up to September.

All services will be live streamed so that those who are not ready
to come back to church will be included.
Rev Cameron will come up with a written plan that will be shared with the parish. It was suggested that the phone tree people make calls with the update and plan.

Ministry Honorary

Rev Cameron explain the role of the honorary priest.
David moved and Anna seconded that St. John the Divine invite Canon Donald Lawton to be a honorary priest at St. John the Divine - Carried

Music
Rev Cameron has been in conversation with Melanie Hacket of SAM about

providing worship music for 2 Sundays a month, fee of $25.00 per hour, for 1-4 hours a week. It was noted that this falls within our budget.

Karen moved and Rita seconded that St. John the Divine enter into a three month agreement with Melanie Hacket. The agreement will be for 2 Sundays a month, fee of $25.00 per hour, for 1-4 hours a week. - Carried

Upcoming
Primate Linda visit

Will be our guest preacher on Sunday June 20th there will be a virtual coffee

hour following the service. Bike Blessing

sometime in June possibly invite a local bike shop to participate as well. This

event will be outside in the parking lot. Trivia Night Fundraiser

Will be some time in June Parish Council Visioning/planning?

Rev Cameron asked the committee if they would be agreeable to meeting next

month for 2 hours so that time can be spent on visioning. The committee agreed. Summer

Rev Cameron will be taking holiday and continuing education time in the summer. Dates will be announced to the parish.
